“Trattoria Visconti” is a very refined place settled in the historic centre of Ambivere, near Bergamo, with a familiar and pleasant atmosphere. They have been serving the traditional food typical of Bergamo, but cooked in a revisited and modern way, since 1932.
The menu changes monthly according to the products availability and it is aimed at giving value to local raw materials, which are either grown in their garden, in their little cornfield, in their orchard or produced by local farmers. In addition, some particular dishes are made in given periods of the year, such as the stewed meat and vegetables, which are served during the winter.
“Trattoria Visconti” has joined the “Slow Cooking” project, which consists of promoting the concept of eating healthy, ethically produced and sustainable food; here old and almost forgotten recipes are proposed to the guests, so that they can rediscover the authentic tastes of the traditional dishes.
One of the crown jewels of the restaurant menu is the so called “Chisol”, a tasty spherical polenta with “Formai de Mut” and creamy “stracchino”, two cheeses typical of the territory of Bergamo; this was the ancient shepherds’ from Orobie alps main meal. “Casoncelli by grandma Ida” are another strong point of the menu; this is a very particular dish made with amaretto biscuit and raisin in order to add a touch of delicate sweetness to the traditional recipe.
You can find the “Casoncelli” recipe, which can be considered as an “evergreen”, on many cooking guides. At “Trattoria Visconti” you can’t help tasting the wide selection of appetizing cheeses with different perfumes, consistencies and aging periods. In addition, vegan food too is made, so that both the people who are following this diet and the ones who want to make a new tasting experience will be able to do it. The large wine cellar contains nearly 800 selected wine labels - produced by local people from both Lombardia and the national territory- to pair with the food.
On the wine list you will find a particular selection of wines of the year 2002 from Valtellina, some prestigious bottles of the past century, the Champagnes and some homemade beers. And the best way to end your meal is to choose either one among the many liqueurs and spirits they have, to have a tisane made with the herbs from their garden or to taste one of the many teas from all over the world surrounded by the magical atmosphere of this place.
